We are very excited to announce the giveaway of an introductory online food photography course from the wonderful folks at The Perfect Picture School of Photography!
- Have you been wanting to learn more about food photography?
- Do you need to improve your photography skills for your blog or portfolio?
- Would you like to create beautiful, awe inspiring photographs or just learn some great techniques for food photography?
- Have you ever wanted to take a photography class but can’t find the time to get out of the house to attend one? Then this online class is perfect for you and easy to take!
The Perfect Picture School of Photography is giving away a spot to one lucky student for the online food photography class “Introduction to Food Photography” taught by professional photographers Ron Goldman and Kathleen Clemons.
Course Description:
Are you as passionate about food as you are photography? Do you find yourself looking through culinary magazines and cookbooks, mesmerized by the photographs and wondering how the photographer was able to create such a stunning image? Have you tried to create similar images and not achieved the results you had hoped for? Perhaps you have started your own “food blog” and want your images to stand out among the thousands of others? Well, you are not alone.
Food contains all of the elements of design that make a striking image. Color, texture, pattern, line, shape, and form are all there, yet it seems almost impossible to correctly capture these elements in a way that makes the viewer NEED to eat what they are seeing.
How many time have you heard “You eat with your eyes first”? It’s true! A beautifully executed food image will make the viewer’s mouth water and their stomach rumble even if they are not fond of the dish that they are looking at!
It’s our job as food photographers to present images that make people stop, look, and feel like they just can’t go without what they are looking at.
How do we do that? In this class, you will discover that with a minimum amount of equipment, some basic composition and exposure rules, and a large dash of creativity, you too can shoot food images just like those you have admired.
Course Requirements:
Students should have a thorough understanding of their camera, aperture and shutter speed. A tripod is an absolute necessity! A digital or film SLR with a wide angle, normal, and short telephoto, macro lens or extension tubes will help you get the most from this class. All of the lessons will be shot using natural light so studio lighting is NOT necessary.
The Giveaway Details:
One lucky winner will get a spot in the class. This giveaway is open to everyone worldwide. It’s open to anyone who has a computer, internet service, a digital or film SLR camera, some food and desire to improve your photography skills! The giveaway will END at 5pm Pacific Standard Time on February 14th, 2010. The winner will be selected from the Random Number Generator and announced on February 15th, 2010.
The class starts on Friday, March 5th, 2010! This class is also offered on a monthly basis. Future dates TBA.

What a great sounding course – count me in as interested! http://twitter.com/Kirsty2715
This would be great to win.
Hi Sally:
I want to win! I want to win! I’m an amateur, passionate photographer. I even went to Phoenix a year ago and studied one-on-one for three days with Phil Douglis (check him out on pbase). I use a Nikon D90, a telephoto lens, and tripod. I won American Humane’s national photo contest in September! The pic is on the home page of my web site for my PR firm (www.mclanerieger.com). My newest fave is on theroguesgallery.wordpress.com.
I tend to take food pix when I’m in a foreign country, find the food unusual and happen to have my camera with me. Such as duck omelette in Paris or the Mexican version of French toast in Cabo San Lucas. I was the spokesperson for a huge international restaurant chain, which was one tough job. I’ve earned this class! Ha ha.
The food pictures on your site are awesome. They inspire me.
Sally: I just wrote about the contest on my Facebook page:

Your photos look terrific. Definitely something I want to learn.
I hope I make it to the class! I usually take food pictures with my boyfriend’s iPhone or Nikkon SLR. He does the cooking, I do the blogging!
This is a great giveaway! I SOOOO need help with food photography! Cooking is easy. Taking pictures of the food is not!
Sounds like a great opportunity, hope I win!

Food is my love and Photography is my passion! As a chef I love the art of preparing food, as a photographer I seem to not photograph food. I would love to win this class to incorporate my two passions in life.
Zoe
Al – You are going to LOVE Provence! We were so blessed to be there in both 2008 and 2009. We have so many beautiful photographs to weave into future posts. Have a wonderful trip! Where are you going? I can’t wait to go back. But I think Italy will come first.
Joy, joy, joy! What a great class. Thanks so much for offering this giveaway!
Sounds great!!

I am just a foodie who happens to be a food editor at a small Texas newspaper. I know a little about a lot, and am desperate to increase my knowledge in food photography and improve our paper and online presence. I love what I do and would be an extremely humbled and dedicated student. Thank you.
Thank you for your generosity!
And I just posted it to my facebook wall http://www.facebook.com/launate
Thank you for offering this class as a giveaway!
I love photography and I love cooking that’s why this is a great idea and opportunity. I like the fact that any one in the world can do the course! Thanks!
I was just talking to someone about this course a few weeks ago saying I would love to take it. What a great opportunity!
Thanks!
Yay! This may actually help do the food justice! My photos look like they were taken on a cell phone camera
Take 2!

As a regular PPSOP student and passionate photographer, I am thrilled to find about this giveaway. I hope I win
I love the succulent food photos and would love to learn more about how to create them!
I would like to learn more about food photography.
Sabrina – Food photography is tough! More difficult than anyone realizes. The class will help a lot. For every picture you see on our site of food, probably 100 were taken. We were not completely happy with the orange cake shot that was posted, so we re-shot it last night. It took us at least 3 hours to get what we wanted. My kitchen table area is often set up like a studio.
I would love to take this course! I have been practicing and soaking up all that I can learn in this field. It is fascinating and so much fun.
wow cool! i’d love to attend this course online and even willing to lose sleep over it (i’m from NZ)!
Wow, NZ! That’s on our travel list. Great place to shoot and blog from! beautiful country! Good luck!
Thanks to you, Sally, Kathleen, and Ron for this contest opportunity.
I’ve taken the other courses taught by Kathleen and Ron on Perfect Picture School of Photography and they’re great – both the courses and the instructors. I’d really appreciate the opportunity to win this contest and take their Food Photography course.
Kathleen and Ron are great teachers, PPSOP is a tremendous school. I love food, I love to shoot, can there be a better combination. Sign me up
Wow. I could only dream that such a course would exist. Hopefully this is the lucky entry!
Wonderful idea. Wonderful opportunity too. Can’t wait till 15th Feb.
Thank you.
I almost jumped out of my seat when I saw this on David Lebovitz site (which by the way is how I found your site…lovely)
Crossing my fingers!
I am not a blogger or photographer. I am an avid cook and my family is always asking for recipes, so this year I decided to try a few new recipes a month, take a picture and put them together into a cookbook for Christmas gifts this year. I ran into a problem, though. My food pictures are horrible!! I would love to take this class and learn how to make my Christmas gifts look even better!
Thanks for the opportunity.
I could definitely use this course!
a second chance…
still crossing my fingers!

Thanks so much for this giveaway. I need much help and would love the opportunity. Good luck to all of us.
This would be a wonderful addition to my ongoing learning process. Hope to be the ONE!!!
I would absolutely love the opportunity to take this class. Thanks!
This class sounds fun! I’ve always loved food, but I have just begun paying more attention to it recently. In the past, I would just take pictures of food I ate, as a memory of all the goodness that went into my tummy. I decided to quit my job and start a new 2 weeks ago. I’ve been thinking about food and cooking now that I have more time. I’m still figuring it out, but like many people, food, family, travel and photography are staples in my life. And thanks to whiteonricecouple.com, I found out about your site and this photography class. Excited!
P.S. Feel free to check out my blog. It’s still a work in progress, but any visitor/comments are welcome!
http://www.ihuglion.blogspot.com
THanks!
I would love to win a place on this course because I am one of life’s procrastinators. Like probably every applicant, food, photography and travel are my hobbies. But although I manage to get on with eating(!), I’ve never made the same effort with photography. I spend my life thinking I can’t do things that friends tell me I can and I think knowing that you were investing in me, would want to earn that gift back by making you glad you had. So fingers crossed.
Oh, this is a wonderful giveaway!! I love food photography and I’m constantly trying to improve my photography skills. I’d enrolled for a photography course but it was cancelled
This would be a great replacement!
This is Fantastic! I love cooking, eating, and enjoy being in and photographing natures finest, and this combines all these wonderful ingredients for all our senses
I can’t believe all these responses and I am just sending this information out to all my friends and family. I have taken lots of pictures of chocolates and candies for my friends shop Chocolatopia. I would love to learn more especially the pictures where you just want to lick the page they are so wonderfully real looking. Kent does that so well! Miss you guys.
