Updated every spring, here is the 2021 Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen List. Use this list to make the healthiest and smartest decisions for your family and your budget when shopping for produce. Once again, strawberries top the list for highest pesticides in produce.

2021 Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen List

Each year the Environmental Working Group (EWG) publishes their Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen list. Here are the worst offenders and the cleanest options. Additionally the EWG notes that a small amount of sweet corn, papaya and summer squash sold in the U.S. is grown from genetically modified seeds. Buy organic varieties of these crops to avoid genetically modified produce.

The Dirty Dozen for 2021

  1. Strawberries
  2. Spinach
  3. Kale, collards, and mustard greens
  4. Nectarines
  5. Apples
  6. Grapes (that includes raisins)
  7. Cherries
  8. Peaches
  9. Pears
  10. Bell peppers and hot peppers
  11. Celery
  12. Tomatoes

The Clean Fifteen for 2021

If you can’t find organic or your budget is tight, don’t worry about buying conventionally grown produce on this list.

  1. Avocados
  2. Sweet corn (buy organic to avoid possible GMO’s)
  3. Pineapple
  4. Onions
  5. Papaya (buy organic to avoid possible GMO’s)
  6. Sweet peas (frozen)
  7. Eggplant
  8. Asparagus
  9. Broccoli
  10. Cabbage
  11. Kiwi
  12. Cauliflower
  13. Mushrooms
  14. Honeydew melon
  15. Cantaloupe
